Graduate Business Career Services (GBCS)
The staff of the Warrington College of Business Administration Graduate Business Career Services (GBCS) would like to congratulate you on your acceptance to our Traditional MBA Program. Career development will be an integral component of your graduate education here at the University of Florida, and we look forward to assisting you in that endeavor. If you take advantage of our wide array of services, we guarantee that you will graduate a stronger and more marketable job candidate than when you entered.
Individual Attention
Because of the size of incoming classes, GBCSO staff members are able to focus their efforts on the individual needs of MBA students: unlike larger, more impersonal programs, each student receives one-on-one advice tailored to meet their specific agenda. From the moment of your arrival, we extend our welcome and seek opportunities to become better acquainted with each of you: improved understanding of your goals both quickens and strengthens the advising relationship, while at the same time assists us in our efforts to better promote your qualifications with employers seeking new hires.
Education & Development
All incoming students participate in individual career advising intake sessions with professional career counselors. We ascertain your strengths and weaknesses, critique your résumé, discuss career aspirations, and, together with you, formulate a career action plan. Following these individual sessions, each student participates in our comprehensive videotaped mock interview process. Then, throughout the semester, career search skills are honed through attendance at our myriad workshop offerings: résumé writing, the job search for international students, career fair preparation, careers in the federal government, and job offers and negotiation. "A Day in the Life", one of our newest programs, is a job shadowing experience where our MBA students gain first hand knowledge and experience at an outstanding company.
Proven Success
96% of the Class of 2007 accepted a full-time position or had job offers in hand at the time of graduation. Students in the two-year Traditional Program typically pursue a summer internship between their first and second years, and we have succeeded in placing over 85% of those seeking such an opportunity. We are very proud of our successful placement rate, but continuously strive for improvement.
Networking Opportunities
The variety of career pursuits after graduation is extensive: our students work with organizations in real estate, finance, marketing, supply chain, human resources and strategic management. They have pursued opportunities through on-campus career fairs, (twice a year for all UF students, once a year exclusively for UF graduate business students), on-campus interviews (nearly one hundred companies recruit students each year, many more advertise full-time and internship openings with our office), and company and industry panel presentations. To facilitate contact between companies and students, our office hosts several company site visits each year. We also work with Alumni Relations to connect students with our alumni. University of Florida alumni are among the most supportive and enthusiastic in the country; support from within their respective organizations yields amazing results.
Commitment to Growth
In an effort to expand opportunities with companies, in 2005 we hired an additional staff member charged with developing corporate relationships, increasing the visibility of the UF program within the business community, and encouraging on-campus hiring activity. This addition is building on an already widespread network of contacts with corporations across the globe.
