Auditing and Information Technology Certificate
The recent compliance requirements (specifically those imposed by the Sarbanes-Oxley Act) require an in-depth technology based audit of company financial records. This has led to an increased need for a combination of auditing and technology skills in students interested in employment opportunities with corporations and consulting firms. The Fisher School of Accounting and the Department of Decision and Information Sciences are jointly offering a Certificate in Auditing and Information Technology to MBA students in WCBA interested in developing these skill sets. Students can obtain this certificate by completing eight graduate courses (4 in Accounting/Auditing and 4 in DIS).
Decision and Information Sciences Certificate
This certificate program focuses on developing a technological understanding of the current issues as they relate to information systems/information technology. Over and above technology issues, students also obtain a basic understanding of decision models for managing information systems. Students obtaining such a certificate usually obtain positions in the top management consulting firms or as strategic analysts in the transportation, telecommunications, and financial sector.
Students who earn the certificate will be recognized as having a thorough background in information technology. This intense immersion is geared toward students who are interested in careers in management consultancy, software or database development, enterprise management systems, telecommunication and business analysis.
Entrepreneurship & Technology Management Certificate
Since the 80s, there has been a dramatic change in the nature of the American economy. Vast multinational corporations have been replaced by young, fast-growing firms. New companies are created by entrepreneurs or they may be spun out of existing companies, providing new services and products to customers, new opportunities to managers and investors, and new vitality to the national economy.
The managers who create and develop these new entrepreneurial ventures need a diverse and integrated body of concepts and skills. The Certificate Program in Entrepreneurship & Technology Management is designed to develop such managers and to enable career opportunities for students wishing to work in entrepreneurial ventures, start their own business, or go into consulting.
Financial Services Certificate
The Financial Services Certificate Program is designed to prepare students for a career in the financial services industry, brokering stocks and bonds, analyzing securities, or other positions of responsibility. To receive the certificate, students are required to take a minimum of five courses from a select set of seven classes. Students have the option of substituting two of the seven requisite courses with other classes in finance or real estate offered by the department.
Global Management Certificate
It is increasingly important that business students develop a global perspective as they approach their careers. Knowledge of the global marketplace and complementary management skills are vital to leading businesses today. To succeed in such a business climate, organizations will seek managers who can successfully navigate this labyrinth. To do so requires an international perspective and the understanding of both the pitfalls and the great opportunities that arise from markets driven by peoples of diverse cultures.
The Global Management Certificate Program is designed for the student who wants a stronger grounding in international management and an opportunity to attend a foreign business school. To receive this certificate, students must earn six (6) credit-hours from an approved international exchange university program, as well as complete four International Business courses on the UF campus.
Hospitality Management
Certificate in Hospitality Management (CHM) is a graduate certificate program offered by the Warrington College of Business Administration. The courses required for CHM are offered by the Warrington College of Business and College of Health and Human Performance faculty. The program is managed by the director of the MSM/MAIB programs and its administration is housed in the MSM/MAIB office.
All MBA and specialized master’s students who complete the following six 2- credit courses will earn the CHM.
Supply Chain Management Certificate
In general, a supply chain/logistics system can be viewed as a set of interconnected linkages required to transform ideas into delivered products and/or services. Firms are increasingly using outsourcing as a means to gain a competitive edge. The expansion of global markets, and increased opportunities to procure and sell products/services in these markets, has led to an increased need for managers who can develop global outsourcing and marketing strategies. For these and other reasons, companies are increasing their focus on efficiently operating supply chains.
This is an inter-disciplinary program (operations, marketing, information systems, and management) which trains students to develop an integrated perspective in managing a large national or multinational supply chain. Students are also exposed to one Enterprise Resource Planning system ( SAP R/3) which facilitates integrated decision making in the chain. On completion of the certificate, students usually are recruited by top consulting firms with ERP/supply chain practices, or by the larger corporations (Ford, CSX, etc.) which need experts to address problems in a large-scale supply chain.
