Marketing Faculty Win AMA's Stern Award
Five members of UF’s world-renowned marketing faculty have gained another acolyte to add to their already stellar reputations,
as the American Marketing Association (AMA) have named them recipients of the 2005 Louis Stern Award. Co-authors of the prize-winning paper are:
Joe Alba, Bart Weitz, Chris Janiszewski, Rich Lutz, and Alan Sawyer
The article, "Interactive Home Shopping: Consumer, Retailer, and Manufacturer Incentives to Participate in Electronic Marketplaces," was published in the Journal of Marketing.
The Louis Stern Award was designed to honor outstanding articles on marketing channels and distribution published from three to eight
years ago. The Award selection process is conducted by the Interorganizational Special Interest Group of AMA, but draws on input from throughout the
discipline. The criteria used in selecting a winner included:
· Quality of the article's contribution to theory and practice
· Originality of the article
· Technical competence in the execution of the research
· Impact on the field of channels of distribution
This year's selection committee was chaired by Jakki Mohr (University of Montana), and also included Bob Lusch (University of Arizona)
and Aric Rindfleisch (University of Wisconsin).
This committee considered articles published in any journal and solicited nominations from the membership of the Interorganizational
SIG, the review Boards of the Journal of Marketing and the Journal of Marketing Research, and to subscribers of ELMAR.
Joe Cannon, Interorganizational SIG (IOSIG) Chair, stated, “In choosing your article to receive this year's award, the committee
particularly noted that this article was a pioneer in examining the impact of the Internet on channels of distribution, was relevant to practitioners
and academics, linked consumer behavior and channels of distribution, and had been widely cited in marketing and information systems journals. Truly,
this article meets the high standards set by Lou Stern in endowing this award.”
The Award will be presented at the Summer AMA Conference in San Francisco, Calif.
Florida Corporate Alliance Scholarship
September 20, 2004, Gainesville, FL - The University of Florida MBA Program will provide 20 of the state's top business people with full scholarships to attend its nationally ranked MBA program. Through the Florida Corporate Alliance Scholarship (FCAS) program, 20 highly qualified businessmen and women can attend UF's One-year Traditional MBA Program at no cost to them or their employer. It's an incredible ROI for businesses and rising corporate stars.
Alex Sevilla, director of Executive and Professional MBA Programs, stated, "The Florida Corporate Alliance Scholarship is an opportunity for the Florida MBA Program to fulfill its mission of developing future business leaders-an alliance that will promote economic growth in the state by raising the level of managerial skills of professionals throughout Florida. This scholarship program will also assist in our State's efforts to keep our most talented professionals right here in Florida."
Students who receive the FCAS earn their MBA in 12 months, and can specialize their degree in finance, marketing, competitive strategy, information technology, supply chain management, and many other areas. Students awarded the FCA Scholarship will begin the One-Year Traditional MBA "Option A" program in April 2005 and graduate in May 2006. Graduates return to the workforce in one short year with the acumen they need to assume leadership roles in Florida's businesses.
"What's unique about the [One-year MBA "Option A"] program is that it allows students the opportunity to focus on their education and minimize time lost from their career during vital, productive work years. That's a benefit to both the students and Florida businesses," said Dean John Kraft of UF's Warrington College of Business Administration.
As the state's flagship university and its premiere research institution, the University of Florida has provided business education to the builders of tomorrow, the men and women who shape the future of commerce in our state, our nation-our world. Five College of Business Departments Gain National Acclaim
September 26th, 2003, Gainesville, FL - Five departments within the Warrington College of Business Administration at the University of Florida have been recognized as being in the Top 50 in research, based on a new citation study of outstanding faculty research across eight disciplines (accounting, economics, finance, information systems, marketing, management science, organizational behavior, and strategy). The five departments and their overall national rankings among public institutions are:
#1 Marketing
#6 Finance
#10 Economics
#10 Organizational Behavior
#11 Management Science
The rankings are the result of a study of over 1.5 million citations by Academic Assessment Services. Full results will be presented at the International Business and Economic Research Conference in Las Vegas on October 6th. Citation analysis counts the number of times an article has been used in later academic work by other researchers. Because it measures the impact of work on the academic community, it is widely regarded as a valid measure of research quality and productivity for schools, departments, and individual professors.
University of Florida to Offer MBA Program in South Florida
Gainesville, Fla. -- The University of Florida’s Warrington College of Business Administration announces the launch of a new Master of Business Administration program for South Florida residents. For the first time, area business professionals will be able to earn their MBA from the University of Florida’s nationally-ranked program by attending classes in Fort Lauderdale. While there are several established MBA programs in Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties, UF officials are confident that the Florida MBA differs substantially from those, and will quickly be seen as a popular choice for South Florida’s acknowledged and emerging business leaders. UF has the only MBA program in the state of Florida that is internationally recognized for excellence, earning Top 50 MBA Program rankings from U.S.News & World Report, The Wall Street Journal, The Economist and Forbes.
Alexander Sevilla, Director of Florida’s Executive and Professional MBA Programs, says, "It's a tremendous opportunity for many people. South Florida is a major hub of commerce and international trade, led by a community of bright, focused and ambitious professionals, many of whom seek to advance their career by earning an MBA. Before the launch of our new program, South Florida residents who wanted a degree from the state’s top-ranked MBA program had to travel 700 miles once a month to attend classes in Gainesville on UF’s campus. We feel that this thriving professional community needs and deserves a world-class MBA program-ranked by U.S. News and all of the other most important sources—to call its own."
The Conference Center at Fort Lauderdale’s Wyndham Bonaventure Resort will be the location for UF’s Professional MBA Program in South Florida, but the convenient location is the only real difference between attending classes on the Gainesville campus or in South Florida.
"Potential students should not be concerned that this is a 'watered-down' version of our other MBA programs," stressed Sevilla. "The same faculty who teach in UF's Traditional and Professional MBA Programs, upon which our outstanding academic reputation is built, will travel to Fort Lauderdale to teach in this program. Just as important, those students will receive the same Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Florida as any who participate in our on-campus programs in Gainesville," he said.
An intensive marketing effort is currently underway, with Information Sessions and corporate visits scheduled throughout South Florida beginning in April. Classes will begin in Fort Lauderdale in September 2004.
For more information about this exciting program, including scheduled Information Sessions, visit the Florida MBA Programs Web site at www.floridamba.ufl.edu or phone 1-877-4FLAMBA.
